The Home Teacher Cyclopaedia - c1895 - 5 Vol Antiquarian Book Set w/Maps Plates

The Home Teacher: A Cyclopaedia Of Self Instruction
Edited by Samuel Neil
Published by William Mackenzie: London c1895 (undated - inscription dated 1900 and research indicates probable 1886 to 1895 publication date)
Full 5 Volume Set

" Samuel Neil (1825-1901) was a Scottish schoolteacher, journalist and author. Neil edited and compiled most of The Home Teacher, a Cyclopædia of Self-instruction (1886, 6 vols). For the Craigmillar School for the Blind in Edinburgh, which he managed for some years, he compiled a book of poems on the blind and by the blind, entitled Dark Days brightened. "

This Wiki extract states the set contained 6 volumes however the included loose page prospectus states very clearly that the publication will be across 5 divisions. Refer photo.

General wear and fading to covers and spines as shown with rubbed corners. Some light foxing present with the vast majority of all books age toned but clean. After significant inspection I am quite confident that this set includes ALL 90 plates + 16 maps (challenging to ascertain given the quantity - I counted 2 more plates than there should be??). 3 maps have detached from the paper holders but are present. All plates and maps in good condition. I noticed one text page with a tear but nothing missing. Covers and text block edges quite heavily worn and condition falls between acceptable and good given the likely presence of all plates. Please study photos to understand condition. Happy to provide more photos on request.

Size 28cm x 20cm x 2.5cm (x 5 volumes)
